July Small Goals

I originally saw this idea on "Writes Like a Girl," but since I love it so much, I wanted to do my own. Basically each month you pick a couple of small goals to accomplish, such as things that pertain to a bigger goal or just some little things that you want to achieve. By breaking things into smaller, more manageable goals I hope I won't get as discouraged if I can't finish the bigger goal right away because I will be able to see my progress. So, I think this process will be a good way for me to accomplish more without getting overwhelmed. Fingers crossed.

Now, let's dive into my July small goals:

1. Set up an achievable budget for myself and follow it - One of my New Year’s resolutions for myself this year was to save more money, and although I've been doing pretty well so far, I know I can do better. Last year right around the holidays, I got a little out of control because I bought gifts for friends and family but also for myself. Some of it was justified, like a new winter coat, but who needs to buy a wave maker as a "Christmas gift" to themselves? That being said, I want to set up a budget for myself so I have something physically on paper to follow. I've just been trying to keep track of it all in my head or by glancing at my banking apps, which works up to a point. But, if I really want to get serious about saving, I think this small goal will definitely help.

2. Eat out once a week - Another one of my New Year’s resolutions was to loose some weight (real original, right?). I did so well right off the bat, eating a very strict diet and even dropping about 20 pounds. Over the past few months, though, I have gotten a bit more lax with this goal. Although I haven't gained all the weight again, I want to get back on track. The diet I was on, however, was so strict that I hated it— it just wasn't fun for me. I love food so much and I need to find a happy medium. I think a good place to start would be eating out only once a week again. The diet allowed me one “cheat day” per week, so I used that as a day to eat out. Now, I will be the first to admit that there are days I come home from a long day at work and the last thing I want to do is stand in the kitchen for a hour making something for dinner. That's when I usually ask Kody if we can just go out and his response is usually always “yes.” So, taking this first small step will be attainable and lead me to a healthier, yet enjoyable, lifestyle.

3. Eliminate some of my anxiety - I am someone who worries 24/7 about something, whether it is reasonable or something that is completely out of my control. I feel like my anxiety has been worsening and I need to find a way to get a grip on it. As a control freak to the highest degree, I need to learn that I cannot control everything (easier said than done). I try to make things happen the way I want and if they don't go according to plan, it throws me off completely and everything is ruined. I don't know exactly how I want to start confronting this issue, but I think that any step to help eliminate some of my anxiety will serve as a helpful starting point.

4. Blog more - Since I am trying to get back into blogging I think it only makes sense to add this to these goals. I'm not exactly sure right now how often I want to post on here—I do not want to overdo it and stress myself out. Rather, I want it to be a fun outlet for me. There's not much to this goal because blogging at all will be an improvement for me ;) Honestly, though, I want to create more content and have fun blogging this month.

I think these goals will be good starting points for me because they are pretty achievable for me. When I write the post for my August small goals, I will include an update on how I did with July’s.

Do any of you set small goals for yourself each month? If so, what are some of them?

Here's to a productive July!
