Goodreads Synopsis:
In tiny Merinac, Kansas, Chicken Mimi's and Chicken Frannie's have spent a century vying to serve up the best fried chicken in the state--and the legendary feud between their respective owners, the Moores and the Pogociellos, has lasted just as long. No one feels the impact more then thirty-five-year-old widow Amanda Moore, who grew up working for her mom at Mimi's before scandalously marrying Frank Pogociello and changing sides to work at Frannie's. Tired of being aught in the middle, Amanda sends an SOS to Food Wars, the reality TV restaurant competition that promises $100,000 to the winner. But in doing so, she launches both families out of the frying pan and directly into the fire...

The last thing Brooklyn-based organizational guru Mae Moore, Amanda's sister, wants is to go home to Kansas. But when her career implodes, Food Wars becomes her chance to step back into the limelight. Mae is certain she can make the fading Mimi's look good--even if that pits her against Amanda and Frannie's With a greedy producer stoking the flames, their friendly rivalry quickly turns into a game of chicken. Yet when family secrets become public knowledge, the sisters must choose: Will they fight with each other, or for their heritage?

My Review:
This was actually the last book I read in November and honestly the perfect book to read right around Thanksgiving. There is so much talk of food and family in this and I was there for it. This book was heartwarming to read but also made me so hungry for a good fried chicken dinner, so make sure you do not read this while hungry.

The only thing that really irked me about this book is that the characters were all so stubborn and could hav easily talked through so many of their problems early on but were all too proud to do so. Instead this led to year long grudges and Mae not knowing Amanda's kids and vice versa. My other beef with the main characters is that they both do really crappy things to one another. It's more than slight petty actions in my opinion and more like they were out for blood at certain moments. I felt like some of the actions they did were a bit over the top, but it also added to the drama of the book and even though it was a bit overdramatic it was fun to read.

Aside from that this book did a wonderful job at creating a small town community and really making you feel part of it. The loyalties lie strong in Merinac and it was a nice trip to go on with the characters. I really enjoyed the ending of this book and some of the little twists it had at the very end. If you are looking for a feel good book this is a great one to pick up!

Signing off,
Molly
